Dr. Stefanie Doyle Peters joined the Barrington Psychiatric Center (BPC) in 1986 and is the senior clinical consultant in psychology. She conducts evaluations, consultations and gives expert testimony on behalf of both defense and plaintiffs in a wide range of civil cases.
While specializing in the areas of employment litigation (sexual harassment, age discrimination, racial discrimination and ADA issues), Dr. Peters also is an expert in the psychological impact of physical injury, disability, post traumatic stress disorder and the impact of sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse. At BPC, Dr. Peters conducts psychological evaluations in workers’ compensation cases and provides psychological therapy for individuals in cases of workplace stress and trauma. She has also directed the BPC-sponsored “Training Program for Professionals” and the “Quality Assurance Program for Professional Services.”
In addition to her work at BPC, Dr. Peters maintains a clinical practice, treating both individuals and couples. She provides consulting services to mental health professionals and faculty members in the preparation of manuscripts and grant applications and speaks to groups of attorneys and insurance examiners on a range of topics pertaining to workplace injury and litigation. Dr. Peters also serves as a consultant to the Hershe Group, an organization which helps prepare adolescent girls in the foster care system for a successful transition to adulthood.
Dr. Peters received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she was the recipient of the National Institute of Mental Health Fellowship. She completed her internship at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute. Over the years, she has conducted research in areas relating to childhood sexual abuse and depression.
